Yes, FlexNet started off in Hawaii, but we offer over two thousand
local dialup number spread across the United States.
FlexNet is Hawaii's very first public Internet Service
Provider (ISP). We started our business way
back in June of 1994, and first offered Internet
dialup accounts on July 12, 1994, had a one week free
trial and started charging for access on July 19, 1994.
Back then it was a "speedy" 56Kbps Frame Relay link.
FOURTEEN YEARS is an awful long time on the
Internet and we've literally been here since Day One.
With the same owner (Del Wong) and company. We taught
many other Hawaii IPSes how to build, float and run
their ISP boats. Nowadays, they don't even give me the
time of day. Hah.
How We Connect to the Internet
All ADSL connections are outsourced via System Metrics and who knows how they
connect to the internet anyhow? And and what speed? Never ever did get a
straight up answer. Neither will you if you ever talk to them.
Dialups. Okay, if you dialing a hawaii 808 dialup nmber, then you are actually
using PLNI (we outsource thru them guys.) If you are calling a usa/canadian
modem access number then it is outsourced to IKANO/Dialup USA.
Server Location(s)
Our main server is at the Amazon Web Services Cluster farm. Our Name servers consists of two
machines located at Godaddy. We backup our data both at Amazon and at a separate location at
Media Temple. We also have a third standby backup space at Rsync.Net.
