Virtual Domain Email REDIRECTS
The following information is for users who
are currently hosting Virtual Domains with FlexNet. If you don't have a Virtual Domain,
STOP. Don't fool around here.
By default all domain email such as "whatever@mydomain.com" is sent to the username here at FlexNet that the Virtual Domain was
setup under. If you wish to REDIRECT (forward) certain email addresses to a different true internet email address, follow the
steps below.
Simply create a plain Text File (such as with Notepad) like so:
sales@mydomain.com william@aol.com
info@mydomain.com kennyg@ibm.net
tom@mydomain.com dancer@lava.net
The FORMAT is:
"Virtual email address"<SPACE>"Real email address"
Please note that
there is a SPACE between the virtual email and the REAL internet email account. And of course, substitute your real virtual domain
for "mydomain.com" in the example above!
More Examples:
info@mydomain.com bill@aol.com
info@mydomain.com sally@flex.com
info@mydomain.com tom@aloha.com
The result of the above statements is that all email addressed to "info@mydomain.com" will be sent to "bill@aol.com". The other
statements will be ignored! Try this instead:
info@mydomain.com bill@aol.com,sally@flex.com,tom@aloha.com
...and the results will be what you probably intended! Note the BLANK
SPACE between the "info@mydomain.com" and the rest of that line. Also note
the commas "," between each email address
and that there are NO SPACES in that portion of the statement. Okay, one
last example:
@mydomain.com tom@hillbilly.com
...will send ALL DOMAIN EMAIL addresses to "mydomain.com" to "tom@hillbilly.com". The order of your statements of your
".redirects" file IS IMPORTANT! Put the catchall "@mydomain.com" as the LAST statement of the ".redirects" file. If you make it
the FIRST statement, then all subsequent statements will be OVER-RIDDEN.
After you have created this PLAIN TEXT FILE, upload this file into your home directory (not your website directory, your HOME
DIRECTORY) and save it as ".redirects" (Note the period "." before the word "redirects", and also it is all in lower
case.)
Our system rebuilds all virtual domain redirects EVERY 15 Minutes. So just
wait for that amount of time, and your virtual emails redirects will be
incorporated into our system.
Homework: What would the below .redirects STATEMENT do?
@mydomain.com peter@mamasan.com,sue@aol.com,mary@earthlink.net
