Crime news compelling for U.S. readers

For better or worse, news about crime and the criminal justice system attracts readers' (and news people's ) attention. Some say it is not healthy to place so much emphasis on crime news; that it gives a distorted picture.

In Europe, crime stories don't receive nearly as much play as they do in the U.S. But healthy or not, there is an appetite for news about crime and the criminal justice system. It is the job of news professionals to give as accurate and multi-dimensional view of crime as possible.
