Samples of my pages
I remember the first time I had to lay out a page. It was scary. Years later, and after some classes by Tim Harrower, it got somewhat easier. And the technology certainly has changed.
In the old days a typesetter was required. You used to have to count out your headlines, giving numeric values to letters and trying to fit the lines in the space. Photos were black and white half tones and required a sizing wheel and a darkroom.
Now everything is done on the computer, with page layout software and Photoshop. You don't even have to take the pages to the printer anymore, you just turn them into pdfs and ftp them. But the human element is still there. And it is still fun to build a newspaper. No matter how much you have looked at the layout, it is still like seeing it for the first time when you get the finished product.
Here are some samples of pages I have built. Just click the page (or link) to see a larger version.
