It's a visual world

Words are great for the detailed coverage at which newspapers excell, but it is photography that grabs readers' attention. I read once that readership studies show that people look at a photo first, then the cutline, then the headline, then back to the photo, then maybe they read the story.

What is the trick to taking good newspaper photos? Darned if I know, but the best advice I ever heard still applies: 'f8 and be there.' Below are some links to categories of photos I have taken.
