Sunrise The last sunrise of the year. The beginning of the end of the year, perhaps of the century and the millennium. This photo captures the scale of this sunrise, which reminded us of our humble position in the order of things. It was a wonderful way to bookmark this passage. |

We didn't get a green flash, but there wasn't much more we could have asked of the morning. We even had one of our rare sightings of the night heron that fishes just before dawn in this stream, just inland of where it flows into the Pacific. |

Like the predicted Y2K disasters, the first sunrise of the year was pretty elusive. On the positive side, it left lots of room for what will follow.
