Su Jok, the handy cure for all ailments

Tired of running to the doctor every time you have a sneeze, cold or a headache coming? Tired of popping pills and guzzling tonics irrespective of their being from Allopathy, Homeopathy, Ayurveda or Unani? Or worse, tired of remembering to gulp them at regular intervals?

Relax. Why not try the Su Jok therapy for a change? Your hands and feet are at your service! Surprised?Dr Kishore K Shah of the Mahavir Holistic clinic at Ramkote, Hyderabad, is a practising therapist of Su Jok acupuncture — a brain child of Prof. Park Jae Woo, a South Korean scientist who is currently touring India.

Su means a hand, and Jok means a foot. Su Jok acupuncture or in other words, ‘self-help treatment’ is a highly condensed form of earlier acupressure or acupuncture therapies which are 5,000 years old. Says Dr Shah, “Previously we used to search the channels or meridians which are specific areas like the lungs, large intestine, spleen, liver, etc., through which the energy flows.

Now, all these channels are located in the hand itself. Say, for the entire lung area, from the chest to the hand, the corresponding points are located in the index finger itself. So, diagnosing becomes fast and time-saving too. The points are also located on the feet.”

Day by day, the treatment is becoming so simple that one can self treat oneself for common ailments like a headache, stomach ache or even sinus. “With our very fingers we can treat ourselves,” smiles Dr Shah.Su Jok therapy can be used for treating at the physical, mental and emotional levels.

Here, pain is considered as blockage of energy. Once the block is removed, the pain just vanishes. According to Su Jok theory, the head resembles the body the most. The five outstanding parts of the body are the head and the trunk, two arms and two legs. So too, the hand has five fingers.

The thumb correlates with the head, the forefinger and little finger with the arms, the third and fourth fingers with the foot, and the palm corresponds to the trunk.Explains Dr Shah, “Acupressure is a human science which can treat all ailments right from headache to heartache.

There are innumerable controlling pressure points on our body. And each point on the hands represents a major organ, viz, eyes, ears, nose, throat, kidneys, etc. Whenever there’s a discomfort or disease in the body, just approach the clinic in your hand or foot.

First apply a slight pressure, find out the sensitive point and then apply needles (if necessary) on that point to get prompt relief or cure.” Because of its non-invasiveness, non-involvement with animals and being absolutely medicine-free, the importance of Su Jok is now being realised and is given a higher status as compared to other alternative medicines like Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Naturopathy, etc.

The Chinese believe that there is a complete setup of the required medicines inside the body itself. All it requires is to stimulate externally with the right amount of pressure and if the problem is severe, then acupuncture will release the internal pressures.

Dr Shah mostly gets asthma, spondilytis, chronic backache and sciatica cases. Most of the patients are women. Recounting a few cases, he says, “Two years back, a 44-year-old man after recovering from a head injury in an accident, was unable to open his mouth.

Then I gave him Su Jok on the thumb corresponding area. After inserting the needles, he was able to open his mouth fully. This happened a month ago.” There was the case of a 46-year-old man suffering from neck-pain for the last 25 years. Last month, it had become so severe that he was advised to go in for an operation.

Instead, with Su Jok, he can now move his neck freely. The other day, a 11-year-old girl had come with breathing problems. He applied mustard seeds on the lung corresponding area on the palm. From then onwards, her breathing and even sinus problems disappeared!

Su Jok has a great impact on women with menstrual irregulatities, PMS (pre-menstrual syndrome) and menopausal blues. Even skin problems, allergies and gastric problems can be successfully treated.“For any disease, there is no standard treatment, because no two patients are alike,” he explains.

“Apart from applying pressure, we also treat by puncture, magnets, seeds (fenugreek or mustard). Moxa (heat treatment), metallic bells or stars. Colours and infra-red laser treatment is given to children who can be sensitive to acupressure.”

He also mentioned that Prof. Park Jae Woo, in his recent research, has completed the eight-fold path from the single needle treatment to the eight origin treatment as mentioned in his book, Thumb is head.

He also discovered the complete phenomenon called correspondence systems based on Yin and Yang principles, Five element theory, Six-ki theory, magnet theory, chakra treatment and eight origin methods of treatment — all related to natural phenomenon.

Dr Shah is currently the Secretary of the Radionic Association of India and as recently as last week, he was honoured with lecturership in Su Jok by Prof. Park Jae Woo at Chennai.Three years ago, he held a health camp at Kalyandurg in Anantpur district. There, he had treated 6,000 patients free of charge. Very soon, he is planning to do a similar thing, yet again.

He wants this science to become very popular as it is easily available and totally economical. He wants the Government to back it in a big way as self-help being the best help, anyone can easily learn and practise it. So, prompt relief from pain is just a hand’s throw away. Go for it!

Not for commercial use. Solely to be fairly used for the educational purposes of research and open discussion.
