Offering of the Ashes
of
Rell Kapoliokaehukai Sunn

This misty morning with an auspicious light drizzle at Makaha is the kind of day Rell likes, and what her middle name signifies.

At about 11:30 a.m., January 17, 1998, the ashes of Rell Sunn's mortal remains were taken to the Makaha Blowhole and offered to the ocean. She is now truly one with everything -- with All There Is. The spirit of the Queen of Makaha will remain a guide and guardian for all who come to Makaha, Hawaii, or think of it.

Her ashes were placed in a transparent, light-green glass bowl. She always likened herself to the glass balls which break away after serving their purpose and drift away.

Rainbow-colored doves were released to freedom at the ceremony.

One of Rell's beautiful pictures printed on one side, the following represents the other side of a card that was distributed at the sacred ceremony attended by hundreds of us. It is an order of services. People came from all over the world to pay their last tributes to Rell Sunn, the champion surfer of all champions:
