Webcam Status

2/5/08 -3/8/08:
System would not stay online. Problem was an intermittent mother board, this was found after bench testing Web cam computer over time, have replaced mother board in the new Web cam computer.

12/10/07 -12/12/07:
Auto focus not working. Replaced cam. A small auto focus motor failed.

10/15/07 -11/10/07:
Web cam computer went down. Specifically salt laden air corroded some control traces on the mother board. Replaced Web cam computer.

10/15/06 -10/19/06:
Earth quake on big island. Knocks out power on Oahu. Voltage spike kills router power module. New power module so back on line.

7/30/06 - 8/8/06:
No live feed. Had to reset server, guess I need an automatic reset feature.

2/10/06 - 2/14/06:
New hard disk. Backup did not copy over the authorization key used by ivista. Should have used an "image" instead of a backup. Too late now. Had to wait for a new key from ivista.

12/30/05 - 1/3/06:
Hard disk crash.

8/16/05 - 8/18/05:
No live feed. Had to hardware reset the Road Runner cable modem.

6/14/05 - 6/19/05:
No live feed. Power or RR cable may have been disconnected.

6/1/05 - 6/07/05:
Live feed sporadic due to Road Runner doing maintenance on their system.

8/10/04:
The web server was converted to be behind a hardware router/firewall. This was preventing the ip address from being automatically updated, which resulted in no live video feed. Have added software that works behind a NAT router to automatically update the IP address.

7/20/04 - 7/27/04:
No live feed. IP address may have changed. Will trouble shoot on or around 8/4/04.

11/30/03:
Cleaned water from lens cover. It is amazing that auto focus can focus on the water droplets instead of the mountains in the distance. It does make for a rather interesting picture.

6/19/03:
Replaced webcam with same model that has an auto focus that works. Will dissect old camera to determine cause of failure.

4/14/03 - 4/26/03:
Electrical power went off around 4/14, when the power came back on the webcam tried to focus, something it shouldn't try to do on its own. Refocused camera and will modify it so it can't auto focus. Road Runner continually does maintenance on their system and keeps changing the IP address. Not really a problem just an observation. So why didn't the webcam get refocused quicker? Well the wind and surf came up on the south shore and its been great wind surfing at Diamond Head.

3/14/03:
There are some salt deposits on lens cover, will clean as soon as possible. In Hawaii time that means within a couple of weeks.

2/19/03:
Auto focus on the beach cam has failed. Will manually focus unit and hope it does not try any focusing on its own.

2/14/03 - 2/18/03:
Webcam was offline due to power supply failure in the webcam computer. The power supply fan's sleeved bearing froze, causing the power supply to over heat. The high temperatures caused failure of some capacitors.. there more than you ever wanted to know.

On or around 2/15/03:
Road Runner changed the IP address, which is to be expected. The "flex.com" web page is automatically updated, but any hand coded absolute addresses will have to be manually changed.
